D2X problems considered

Well once again there are some unhappy people about since Diablo 2 is not on the shelf yet.

This problem came up with Diablo 2 itself and during lengthy discussions with the distributor of the game earlier this year, certain factors were explained to me that I hadn’t considered previously.

Australia is in a unique situation. We have a relatively small population spread over a vast continent, almost as big as the United States. When games like D2 arrive they land in one of our ports, I think it’s Western Australia. Now, it’s only fair that everyone in Australia can get their hands on the game at the same time. This means that the distributor has to transport the titles to every major city in Australia as fast as possible in order to facilitate a national release, as well as coordinating marketing and publicity. I’m sure many of you can see the logistics involved in such a massive operation, and the problems that may occur, but I’m sure there are others that will simply cry foul.

I’m a gamer, like everyone else who reads this site and I want the D2 expansion yesterday, but there may be factors that we don’t know about which is holding up the release. I’m not saying that the distrubutors are blameless here because they very well may be in the wrong, but I don’t know the full story, so I would prefer to reserve judgement till we know exactly what’s going on. It’s very frustrating that this kind of thing seems to happen to Australian gamers more so than others.
