More On Telstra
For all those who are disgruntled with Telstra’s sudden decision to change cable contracts and implement a 3GB monthly cap, there is some more you can do besides sign the online petition (which Telstra has said it is happy to ignore). Apparently one user has hired a lawyer and is meeting with Telstra representatives next week. He needs emails from other users expressing their outrage, which he is going to use as evidence - as well as the numerous forums and websites covering the story. If you have something lucid to say, you can email him directly, but please don’t just send spam or meaningless abuse. Be articulate and rational.
As another democratic channel through which to voice your concerns there is the Telecommunications Ombudsman. Official complaint forms are available online, but again, please be professional and courteous, and explain rationally and clearly why you are upset with Telstra. The Ombudsman is an official channel outside of the elected government (one of the advantages of the Westminister system), so treat him as an ally, not a whipping post.
It would pay to check out Whirlpool first, as they are covering the issue indepth.
UPDATE: Telstra has announced a list of sites not included in the AUP download limit, among which is Wireplay, the Telstra gaming site. It seems like a concession toward gamers as online game traffic will not be including in the 3GB cap (a major concern for gamers who generate more than 3GB a month in games traffic alone). However what it effectively does is prevent Telstra cable users from utilizing any other gaming sites except their own. Whirlpool has the full story.
I have also emailed Optus for official response on the situation, and some clarification on why they do not offer cable service to units or townhouses.
In the meantime, I have organised to switch my phone line from Telstra over to Optus, and I would recommend those of you who are suitably peeved to do the same. Normal lines generate much more revenue than broadband connections, and you will get to explain why you aren’t returning to Telstra when representatives phone you every two months to try and lure you back.
Update2: If you’re not interested in being rational, courteous or professional about your gripe with Telstra, you can e-mail me rob@bigkid.com.au. After all there’s nothing better than just giving them a good serving, might not achieve much but hey, they deserve it:)
While you’re at it check out this site that has some interesting Telstra contact information.
