Telstra sux!

Yes, it’s official (as if it hasn’t been for years). Telstra sux big time. As I’m sure many of you already know, Telstra has slapped a download limit on its Cable and ADSL customers recently. There is outrage everywhere and what does the Telstra spokesman say to those affected:

“They are very angry. But we were expecting that.”

IMHO Telstra has been hobbling the growth of online services in Australia for years. And why? Well with the continued annoucements of record profits from this money gobbling corparate monster, its pretty clear what their motivations are. Do everything in their power to cripple the competition, monopolise the market place and screw customers for all they’re worth.

I for one have despised Telstra and its underhanded tactics for a long time. Almost as long as Moe. Well, not that long:)

So what can you do? Well, do what myself and many others have done. Vote with your wallet and go to another carrier. This isn’t much help for cable users as there is only one other choice, Optus@home. However, I have been on Optus@home for close to a year now and my connection has been blazingly fast and reliable.

But don’t take my word for it, check out the comparison on ITNews.

For those interested I regularly download demos from Fileplanet and rarely get less than 200 Kb/sec download rate.

Australian servers are even faster!

While my usage isn’t the highest, I would definitely be above average with 100s of megabytes of demos every week, trailers/movies and hours of online games and I have never even come close to exceeding Optus’ exceptable use policy.

Thanks Whirlpool.
