Blizzard Sues Over Rights to ‘Diablo’ Name
Having sold over 5 million copies of Diablo 1 & 2 collectively, Blizzard Entertainment are suing Satan for the rights to the name, claiming the Prince of Darkness is just not representing like he used to.
Ok, so I digress. The truth is that Blizzard and their parent company Havas Interactive have filed a suit against New Line Cinema, who are currently in pre-production on a film entitled ‘Diablo’. The short version is that Blizzard are looking at the possibilities of bring Diablo to the silver screen and don’t want there to be confusion in the titles of the movies, which is fair enough.
Where it gets really quite amusing though, is that while Blizzard are owned by Havas, they are in turn owned by Vivendi Universal whereas New Line Cinema are owned by AOL Time Warner. Look for this one to go 12 rounds.
