Part 1 of Developers Down Under
Developers Down Under is a new series of articles on BigKid where we conduct interviews with prominent members of the gaming industry here in Australia and discuss their views on the industry both locally and internationally.
In part 1 David Gillespie interviews Ian Malcolm, Game Designer at Infogrames Melbourne House:
Splash: Looking outside the company, it was a great year for Australian development in general, with other companies like Krome, SSG, Ratbag, Blue Tongue releasing titles that were fairly well received. Does it encourage and spur you guys on to see other Australian developers meeting with success?
Ian: I think it’s always good to have more developers here in Australia, not only to keep us on our toes, but also to increase the ‘gene pool’ of game dev. talent in this country. Over the years we’ve had a lot of people coming to work for us from overseas, simply because it can be hard to find staff locally, and we don’t always have the time to train people from the ground up. The fact that the industry can support this level of development on a local basis is a big improvement and a positive overall sign too.
