Big Thank You’s!
Can someone tell me where this year went? It seems like last week I had a glass of champagne in my hand seeing in 2000 and now it is over and people can stop arguing over when the real millenium begins (it happens tomorrow just FYI). It’s been an amazing year for us here and don’t be surprised if the Thank-You’s come in several editions today as we all have people who have helped us individually as well as on the site as a whole.
Firstly, Australian Developers, the reason we are here, congratulations on such a great year of success. It’s been a year where we’ve made people sit up and take notice of what is going on down here, and that is only going to continue and grow through 2001 and beyond.
I would particularly like to thank Steve Wang, Kevin Kong and the crew at Micro Forte Sydney for their help over the past year in supporting the BigWorld project. At the Canberra studio, big thanks to Trent Ward and Laura Simmons for all their help at the Australian Game Developers Conference, and congratulations on the event as a whole - we’re all hanging out for the next one!
At Infogrames Melbourne House, Mark Morrison and Ian Malcolm (no, not THAT Ian Malcolm) for imparting their wisdom in the form of an interview just about whenever we wanted it.
At Blue Tongue, the guys who hung out with us during the AGDC. I told you I was awful with names at the time and that remains. Drop the crew here a line and keep us posted with what’s happening down there.
In Adelaide, everyone at Ratbag Games, in particular Greg Siegel for always being supportive of what we do. Also Cam Dunn, thanks for the encouraging words at the conference.
Here on the Gold Coast, EA Studio OZ, Steve Dauterman, Derek Proud and Kirt Lemons for both assisting with interviews and infomation whenever it was needed.
In Brisbane, everyone at Krome, Auran, Evolution and those I’m forgetting, drop me a line and let me know where I slipped up - I’m sure the other guys here on the site will anyway.
If you’re an Australian developer and you’ve never had content featured here on BigKid, drop us a line and let us know where you are and what you’re working on. BigKid exists to promote Australian talent so we want to hear from everyone out there.
Big thanks to those who work on sites overseas who have assisted us in various ways, even Old Man Murray for spanking us publicly, it was a personal highlight for me at least.
To overseas developers thanks for responding to requests for interviews despite the distance and relevance to your “important” markets.
Everyone at Sony Australia, particularly Steve Wherrett, I promise to try and like more Playstation games next year.
Kevin Cheung at Fairfax for throwing me a personal helping hand, much appreciated.
I’m out of time so anyone who I’ve forgotten accept my humblest apologies and feel free to flame me on the public forum of your choosing. Monty will no doubt be along later on with amendments to the list, there are just so many people who help us make BigKid what it is.
Last but by no means least, everyone who visits us every day. Australian developers are the reason we are here but you guys are the reason we can stay here. We love hearing from you so drop us a line in the new year and let us know what you want to see more of here on BigKid. We’ve got a lot of things planned and by this time next year, we’ll have hopefully taken BigKid far beyond what we have in mind, I know that was the case this year.
Thank you everyone!
