MOOving Into Cyberspace

If you’ve ever wondered what happened to Multi User Dungeons (MUD), well, many of them have morphed into MUD Object Oriented’s (MOO). It’s all a little hard to describe, but a large article on Linguafranca outlines the growing bizarre and fascinating virtual society of MOOs. As far as I can make out, MOOs are a cross between MUDs and IRC (online chat), except you can create (build) your own part of the world. It’s not about hacking and slashing anymore, it’s all discussion, social interraction, and online community. Hellooo Post Modernism.

The article outlines the author’s telnet MOO experiences, but there is a much more user friendly web version at the mother of all MOOs, Lingua MOO.
