Realism & Getaway on the PS2
Well it’s day two of AGDC and Brendan McNamara from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just presented his keynote address about the driving/action game Getaway, currently in development at Sony’s Team Soho in London. Getaway consists of over 20 missions where the player will be driving or walking around the streets of London, which has been recreated in great detail. The game has a huge budget (at over 3 million pounds) and it really shows in the incredibly realistic graphics that Team Soho have developed for the PS2, including highly detailed characters and vehicles. With these highly detailed models to work with, Team Soho made every effort to add realism to their animation, including motion capture of multiple actors at one time.
Brendan McNamara demonstrating Getaway in action. Although we didn’t get a photo, we were impressed with a map of London which showed over 40 square miles of streets and roads - faithfully recreated for the gamer to explore during missions.
