3dfx Joins OpenGL Board
3dfx has become the newest member of the OpenGL Architectural Review Board in what could be seen as a turnaround for the company. 3dfx’s proprietary API Glide has traditionally been promoted in opposition to the open sourced OpenGL, which they will now be helping to improve. 3dfx is the second large company to be admitted to the board in a month. Recently 3DLabs was admitted, to the board, joining a who’s who list of internet companies including ATI, Compaq, Evans & Sutherland, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, nVIDIA, Microsoft, SGI and Sun Microsystems.
