NEC Pays Rambus

NEC has signed an agreement with Rambus Inc. compelling them to pay royalty fees on most types of DRAM (memory). They are the fourth major RAM manufacturer to be bullied into the royalty agreement by Rambus, whose competing RAMBUS memory is consistently outperformed by the superior DRAM. The official line, however, is that NEC “was quick to recognize the potential of Rambus as a technology partner”.

Meanwhile hardware site Anandtech has benchmarked DDR SDRAM on an Athlon system, and produced results P4 133MHz SDRAM systems could have trouble equalling. Thanks Slashdot.
