Violent Games Aimed At Children
Computer game producers are actively marketing violent video games to children while labelling them as only suitable for adults, according to a US investigation. After a year-long scrutiny of violence in the entertainment industry the Federal Trade Commission found games companies consistently advertising “mature” product in teen magazines. Apparently market research has shown violent material is an effective lure to get young people to buy movie tickets, music, and computer games. The FTC report, which was ordered by President Clinton last year after a series of school shootings including the Columbine massacre, is due to be released next month.
