Intel Dumps Rambus
Intel plans to dump Rambus memory in favour of SDRAM in mainstream PC’s, according to leaked confidential company documents. Electronic News reports Intel’s Desktop 2001 Roadmap Update indicates direct Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) will only be used in high end PC’s. Intel previously promised Rambus would be used exclusively in the upcoming Pentium 4’s. The revelation is not really a surprise as Rambus technology has been plagued with problems from the start, and is generally outperformed by PC-133 SDRAM.
