We’re Back, And We’re Not Happy
We’re FINALLY back up and running, but you’ll notice yesterday’s news doesn’t exist. In fact, none of the news after July 23 exists. That’s because our host managed to corrupt every file pertaining to our site and lose the most important of all - our news database. How it happened they are not really telling. The following is the log of a chat I had with their online help:

You: I’m from the site bigkid.com.au, and we are still missing our database
…long pause…
You: hello?
cwelch: One moment while I take a look.
You: the file we’re missing is our news file
You: the file that is there is one we’ve restored from our backups
cwelch: I apologize, but we experienced some network problems over the weekend, and some files were lost. We ask that if you have a copy of your content, please re-upload it to the server.
You: we don’t have an uptodate copy… the most current one we have is to July 23
You: Surely you guys have a more current backup
cwelch: We restored from information that we had as of 7/30
cwelch: I apologize, but that is the most recent that we had available.
You: well, that was *ours*. The one you guys put up there was empty.
You: 7/30 would at least give us another week
You: I’m not bitching.. I know these things can happen. It would just help us.
cwelch: I apologize for the inconvience.
You: So if you have backup from the 7/30, wouldn’t you have a copy of our news file from then?
You: yes?
cwelch: They should.
You: would it be possible for them to upload it over the one that is there?
cwelch: I apologize, but from what I understand they have finished restoring the files.
… and on it went. The moral of the story - never trust your host, and backup every day.
Some links may not work for a while, but we hope to have everything operational by tonight (or within the next 8 hours for those in the northern hemisphere). Thanks for not abandoning us. It has been a frustrating few days.
