IBM Backs Linux

IBM has announced a plan to invest $200 million into the Linux operating system for computer servers. The company will set up developers’ centres across Europe whose purpose will be to develop software for the open source OS. The investment is a significant win for Linux, which as a non-commercial alternative to Windows has relied upon small company and individual programmers to develop software for it.
