Boot Floppies & Windows ME

In case you haven’t been following the complaints of DOS-heads, there’s been some angry concern recently over Microsoft’s plans to stop users from being able to create bootable floppy disks. Windows 2000 can’t do it, and now it seems that Windows ME doesn’t let users get to their DOS prompt to format a boot floppy. So how are us system tweakers going to update our BIOS’es? Apparently Intel is releasing a utility that lets users update their BIOS from within Windows. The Register has the scoop…

…three mouse clicks take the user through an installation wizard and the system then automatically shuts down, updates the BIOS and reboots.

Thanks to Microsoft, power users are still going to locked out of real tweaking, but at least we gamers can keep updating that BIOS! I only hope AMD provide a similar utility for Athlon users.
