Linux 2.4.0 Kernel On Track

Saw on Slashdot a brief post from creator of public licence OS Linux, Linus Torvalds, on the state of the upcoming (and breathlessly awaited) 2.4.0 kernel.

There’s a “test2″ kernel out there now, integrating most of the -ac patches, and some code that wasn’t in -ac. Normally, when you integrate almost 5MB of patches, bad things happen. This time, a miracle occurred. As I uploaded the resultant kernel, a specter of the holy penguin appeared before me, and said “It is Good. It is Bugfree”.

Sure, you have to be a bit of a Linux geek to appreciate the humour, but the gist is that a slew of recent tweaks have gone through without drama. No word on when the kernel will be ready, however.
