Hyperlinks Patented
British Telecommunications (BT) is claiming to hold the patent on hyperlinks and plans to charge ISPs in the US for the privilege of using them. BT apparently filed a patent on hyperlinks - the highlighted text that links web content on the internet (broadly speaking) - and has employed intellectual property experts to help it license the technology. Whoever said the Net was free? It’s altruistic designers must be tearing their hair out with frustration and dismay.
