Romero and Daikatana
Gamespot have produced an excellent article looking at Ion Storm boss John Romero and the long development process of Daikatana. This isn’t your usual game industry review beat up. It’s beautifully and empathetically written, almost serving as a defacto biography of Romero and his game. If you don’t know who Romero is or have never understood the hype surrounding DK Knee Deep in a Dream will be an enlightening read.
Romero’s idea for the office was different. It was going to be a place where gamers could live, sleep, eat, work, and play. In many ways, it was his way of overcompensating for the restrictions he felt within id. “I wanted to build the anti-id where I wouldn’t be frustrated in any way,” Romero says.
