Optical Microchip

Canadian researches have discovered a way to trap light, opening up the possibility of future optical microchips. University of Toronto researchers affiliated with the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research have produced a silicon based material that can control light in the same way microchips control electrons. The discovery is being hailed as a world breakthrough in photonics and has gained the interest of every major corporation worldwide. While the power difference between optical and conventional microchips has been compared to the difference between vacuum tubes and transistors, everyone seems to be overlooking the obvious implication of being able to trap light - making light sabres.
