Cable Modem Tip

Here’s a handy tip I saw on a non-game related mailing list I’m on. If you have a cable modem and want to improve its performance you can try allocating it some more RAM.

Right-click on ‘My Computer’ and select its Properties. On the Device Manager tab, press the Properties button (if/when ‘Computer’ is selected). Note which IRQ your network card is using. Next, open up SYSEDIT.EXE (using the Run command in your Start Menu) and edit the SYSTEM.INI file. Under the [386enh] section, add: IrqX=4096 (where ‘X’ is your network card’s IRQ). Save, reboot, and enjoy!

From the gripes I’ve seen on QGL there’s more and more Aussie gamers out there using cable to play online… anyone got any thoughts on their service or lack of?
