LOTR Talks with Sierra
In a move that may not please Lord of the Rings fans, MCV has confirmed that Sierra is currently in negotiations with New Line Cinema for the game rights to the $130 million The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Sierra lost credibility with a lot of gamers last year when it executed a major restructuring which effectively killed several eagerly awaited games - Babylon 5 among them. It particularly offended LOTR RPG fans when it sacked the popular development team of Tolkien MMORPG title Middle Earth and replaced them with one of their choosing. Sierra was reported as being dissatisfied with the team’s rigorous adherence to the spirit of both Tolkien and the RPG genre, a trait which not surprisingly had endeared them to fans. Five other unnamed companies are also being considered for the project.
